THREE NEWPORT SCHOOLS GO TO
SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD
Sycamore
class left school at 9:45 am on the 25th October 2012.Three schools
went Lliswerry Primary, St Joseph and Sycamore class from Millbrook Primary
School.
We went to Rodney Parade the pitch of Newport County and Newport Gwent
Dragons.
There was an event called Show racism the red card. All three
schools were put in to different groups. We all were excited about the day. An
ex-football player presented it - his name was Christian Roberts. He showed the
children videos about racism.
He showed us one video before lunch about a boy who got called
racist comments, it was so bad he killed him self. This was a sad story it made
the children understand how important it is to try and stop racism.
After lunch some
Newport County players came in and were questioned
by the children for their school newspaper. Joel O’ Brien from
Millbrook won the Goodie Bag for asking the best question.
We are all sure the children told their friends back at
Millbrook more about racism.

SYCAMORE SHOWS RED CARD TO RACISM
We went to Rodney Parade on Thursday 25th October
and met Christian Roberts who is an ex- professional football player. He spoke
to us about the bad language of Racism and the different experiences he has had
as he follows the religion of Islam. He
gave us numbers so we could sit on different tables and meet new people.
First of all we met other children from
Lliswerry primary and St Joseph’s Primary Schools , that were involved with red
card to racism project . Then we made friends with most of them sharing ideas
and thoughts.
We watched a clip that showed us other football players from
different parts of the world all linked together in football but with one
common understanding of racism.
After lunch six
football players from Newport County Football Club arrived and we were able to
ask them questions about their own experiences of racism. They told us that
some child spat at one of them and their guardian did not do anything about it.
Then Christian told us a sad story that made us understand how bad racism can
be.
